Introduction to Singapore Math Bar Modeling for elementary school teachers. The students’ ability to solve word problems requires greater conceptual understanding with less emphasis on the procedural skills. The ability to draw a visual model is critical. The use of models has been found to improve problem solving. Visual models allow students to understand, solve, modify and reflect on the word problems. They also help to link representations to reliable strategies and procedures.
